POLKA DOTTED SNEAKERS

April 4, 2017
I pretty much love everything Kate Spade designs; from her leather handbags, wallets, preppy dresses, glittery jewelry, and home goods; but her designer prices are a bit high for my Graduate student wallet.  Recently, while out shopping I came across these cute polka dotted Keds sneakers designed for Kate Spade, but the $75 dollar price tags was a bit too much.  So, I decided to make my own pair in this simple Kate Spade inspired DIY project.

Supplies:
Plain White Canvas Sneakers (I bought mine from Payless Shoes)
Black Fabric Paint (I suggest using Tulip Soft Fabric Paint)
Hot Pink Sharpie Permanent Marker
Hot Pink Washi Masking Tape
Sponge Daubers
Tissue Paper

Steps:
1. Stuff the inside of your shoes with tissue paper.  This creates a firmer surface for you to paint on.
2. Select dauber size, and dab a bit of paint on the end of dauber.  Select somewhere to start on shoe and press firmly.
3. Add as many or as little polka dots as you like.
4. If a dot is not completely filled in, you can fix it easily by using a QuiTip or fine paintbrush.
5. After you have finished painting, your sneakers set them aside to dry.
6. Take shoelaces and carefully wrap small pieces of Hot Pink Washi Masking Tape around the tips of the shoelaces.

7. After sneakers have dried a bit, carefully draw a line all the way around the sole of the sneaker with the Hot Pink Sharpie.  I used a ridge on the sole as a guide.

8. And, Voila! your Kate Spade inspired Polka Dot Keds are finished.  Let shoes dry a minimum of 24 hours before you rethread shoelaces and wear your new sneakers.
