The 4th of July has always been one of my favorite holidays. It is a day of fun, family, and fireworks. And, this year it was extra special since I was able to celebrate with my family and my husband, who rarely has holidays off.
Let me be clear; I love the 4th of July not only because it is a holiday dedicated to celebrating our Independence and show our pride for the country, but it is also a holiday where communities come together.
In my local hometown, we have a small city parade ever 4th of July. I have been attending the parade since 2008, and look forward to it every year. This year it was extra special with the addition of a large American Flag suspended from the ladders of two firetrucks. What a way to mark the start of the parade.
The parade was extra special because the Grand Marshall was Mickey Mouse! Yep, the big cheese himself kicked off the parade to loud cheers of excitement from all the children and children at heart, like my Mom. With are Frappuccino’s in hand, to stay cool, the two of us enjoyed cheering and waving at the small floats, local volunteers from business and organizations, marching bands, and so much more!
After the parade, I headed back to my parent’s house for a family BBQ with all the fixings, including some incredible ribs my Dad, the grill master, smoked for over six hours.
After a delicious dinner, we headed to our local fireworks celebration. I hope you all had the happiest Independence Day filled with family and friends. God Bless America, land of the free because of the brave.
