MONTH IN REVIEW: JULY 2018

July 31, 2018

I can’t believe that July is already coming to an end!  Summer is half over, and our Southern California summer has been hot to say the least, with above 90-degree days most of the month.  The hot weather has made it very difficult to feel motivated to unpack our new house, which is mostly still in the transition phase.

Life Updates
The last few months have been very emotional and challenging for me, which is why I have been blogging very little during this season.  Here is a little background on what happened.  I lost my job as Director of Performing Arts at the high school where I had founded the program.  It was a complete surprise to me and one I’m still trying to understand.  Sadly, the arts program was “restructured;” it was decided that theatre was not as important as were other programs.  I’m still very upset and hurt by this!  I found it extremely difficult to say goodbye to students about whom I cared so very much.  Still, I left my school feeling quite proud of all the hard work my students and I had done to create a vibrant performing arts program.  I also came away delighted by the willingness of my students to discover and exercise their performance skills.  Since the end of school, my focus has been on finding a new teaching job.  Teaching is what I love doing, and I hope to find my right place soon.

I’m not much of a summer girl, but I love celebrating the Fourth of July.  It’s one of my favorite holidays, however this year we had an unexpected change in plans.  If you follow along on my Instagramyou might have seen that my little pup Schenna had an emergency.  Early in the morning of the 4th, Jeff and I went for a hike and when we came home we found our sweet girl yelping in extreme pain.  It seems that while we were out she broke and dislocated her already handicapped paw while waiting in her kennel for our return.
Schenna was all smiles when she had her stitches removed.
This little pup is so special!  I found her eight years ago abandoned in a ditch.  You could say she picked me to be her person, so of course we immediately took her to the vet.  On the 5th Schenna had her handicapped leg amputated since the break was not repairable due to her pre-existing deformity.  I’m happy to report that Schenna is doing great since her operation and has adjusted wonderfully to life as a three-legged pup.  She is still sweet and loving and wants to make friends with everyone she meets.  On July 21st we celebrated her adoption day with a special pup cake which you can read more about here.
Last Saturday Jeff and I went to the OC Fair for a few hours.  He had never been to the fair before, so it was a lot of fun to watch him experience it for the first time.  He was amazed at the size of the turkey legs at the food booths, but we both thought it was too hot to eat one, so we enjoyed smoothies instead.  While at the fair we walked through all the different pavilions, cheered on the pigs at the pig races, people watched, and visited the baby animals at the Centennial Farm.  We even were able to see eight-day old piglets who I thought were absolutely adorable.  I do love animals!  You can read my post about my trip last year to the fair.

These six piglets were only eight days old.
