MY CURRENT HAIRCARE ROUTINE

March 10, 2021

Over the past year, I have been changing up my haircare routine, and I think I finally have my hair styling routine down to a point where I feel good about my hair and how it’s styled.  I will start by admitting to washing my hair every day.  Yes, I know it strips your hair of its natural oils, but I can’t help it.  I have very oily hair and clean hair is a daily must for me.

I have pretty healthy hair.  It is thick, full of volume and holds curl well; but it is also very oily.  It is important to remember that haircare is not a one-size-fits-all kind of thing, but this routine is what has currently been working for me.  I’m hoping that by sharing my routine, it might help you discover your own haircare process.

Step 1: Wash & Condition

I shampoo and condition my hair every day.  Six days a week I use this Kristen Ess Signature Shampoo and Conditioner.  On Sunday’s, I rotate my routine to a Clarifying Shampoo which removes buildup and gives my hair a deeper clean.  I follow my cleansing with a Deep Treatment Mask, which I leave on for five minutes, for a weekly boost of shine and softness.

Step 2: Blow Dry & Prep

After I wash my hair, I towel dry and spray this Detangling Tonic on my wet hair, which loosens up my tangles, and gently comb out tangles with a wide tooth comb.  To be honest, I usually go to bed after this step and start up my routine the next morning by gently brushing my hair, plugging in my hot rollers to heat up, and spraying six spritzes of this Blow Drying Mist, which cuts down on drying time and works as a heat protectant on my hair before blow drying it with a rounded brush in sections.

Step 3: Style

Once my hair is dry, my hot rollers are usually ready.  These are the rollers I use, and I love them.  Hot roller curls look vintage and last all day.  It has definitely become my signature look.  Once my hair is clean and blown out, I prep it for curl by applying Brunette Dry Shampoo to my roots, to manage my oily hair as they come out and help hold onto the style.  Now prepped, I hot roller my hair in sections.

Step 4: Make It Last

Now that my hair has been completely styled, I run my fingers through the curls and finish by applying Signature Finishing Spray.  I love this spray because it’s light and brushable while still holding my curls and not leaving my hair feeling stiff.

This may seem like a lot, but it works for me and I feel put-together every day.  I can’t express how much I love Kristen Ess’s products.  Not only do they smell heavenly, but they are also affordable, available only at Target, sulfate-free and cruelty-free (meaning products are not tested on animals at any stage of production).  I love knowing that the products I use on my hair are keeping my hair healthy and safe.
